FAQ

What’s the plan?

We’re at the beginning of this ambitious project, and expect it to take somewhere between 5 and 7 years to fully realise. We’ll start small, building the digital and physical infrastructure to support the final collection using the instruments we already have, incrementally adding more over time. The project will be co-designed from the start, ensuring that the needs of Disabled musicians are at the heart of the process. We’ll endeavour learn early in the process what works and what doesn’t and expand when we’re confident that we have solutions that work.

In parallel to developing the initial collection prototype, we will be finding and developing a fully accessible space to house the collection along with the other resources that we will need to really make the project fly. These will include:

  • Accessible studios
  • Rehearsal/workshop spaces
  • Makerspace
  • Performance space
  • Public exhibition space

We will also be forging links with other organisations to share the collection as widely as possible, including having satellite collections around the country to ensure that no-one has to travel far to be able to access the instruments.

This will be a living collection that will expand and evolve over time, but it will also be an archive and a research tool. With that in mind, we will work closely with partner organistions across our sector, including non-profits, academia and the commercial music tech industry, in close partnership with our grassroots communities, to ensure that we can really make a structural change to the possibilities for music making for Disabled musicians.
